As AMPS enters its 56th year, tracing its origins back to the foundation of the ABGSM, it is worth reminding ourselves that this Association has always been founded, funded, directed and run by its members, on behalf of its members. That principle remains unchanged. AMPS exists to serve the collective interests of its membership, to reflect the expertise and priorities of the sector, and to act as a credible, independent voice shaped by those who actively contribute to it. In every sense, this is your Association, and its strength, relevance and influence continue to be defined by the engagement and leadership of its members.
So, as we enter a new year, I would like to take the opportunity to reflect briefly on what we have achieved together through AMPS, and to outline how we intend to build on that progress in 2026.
The pace of change across the energy, infrastructure and power generation landscape continues to accelerate. Against this backdrop, AMPS has remained focused on its core purpose: representing the manufacturers and suppliers of power generating systems with clarity, credibility and authority — and ensuring our sector is recognised as essential to resilience, security and the transition ahead.
Reflecting on our progress
Over the past year, AMPS has continued to strengthen its position as the trusted voice of the power generation supply chain.
Our work has centred on three key themes:
- Representation and advocacy
AMPS has continued to engage with stakeholders across government, regulation and industry, ensuring that the practical expertise of our members informs policy discussions and decision-making. - Member engagement and collaboration
We have expanded opportunities for members and affiliates to connect, share insight and collaborate on common challenges — from skills and standards to sustainability, resilience and emerging technologies. - Raising the profile of the sector
Through events, meetings and communications, AMPS has consistently promoted the vital role our industry plays in keeping critical infrastructure, industry and communities powered and resilient.
This progress is driven by your involvement, expertise and support, and I would like to thank you all for your continued engagement with the Association.
Our focus for 2026
As we move into 2026, AMPS will be sharpening its focus and increasing its activity across several priority areas:
- Stronger policy engagement
We will continue to engage proactively with policymakers, regulators and industry bodies to ensure that engineering-led, real-world insight from our sector is heard and understood. - Amplifying the member voice
AMPS will place greater emphasis on creating platforms — through events, briefings and working groups — where members can actively contribute, influence debate and share expertise. - Skills development and workforce capability
A major priority for 2026 will be the development of a globally recognised, accredited Field Service Engineer training programme, delivered in collaboration with EGSA and EuropGen.
This initiative will support skills development, consistency, safety and professionalism across the sector, helping to address both current skills gaps and long-term workforce sustainability. - Thought leadership and technical guidance
AMPS will lead the publication of a European-focused edition of On-Site Power Generation: The Comprehensive Guide to On-Site Power.
Building on the well-established US-centric version, this publication will reflect European standards, regulatory frameworks and market realities, providing an authoritative reference for end users, specifiers and policymakers. - Events, visibility and industry leadership
In 2026, AMPS will continue to build its presence at key industry events and develop its own programme of briefings, discussions and networking opportunities, designed to deliver tangible value to members and affiliates. - Supporting a changing energy landscape
As demand grows for resilient, flexible and lower-carbon power solutions, AMPS will continue to champion the role of proven technologies, innovation and skills across the power generation ecosystem.
