AMPS (the Association of Manufacturers and Suppliers of Power Generating Systems) has helped to bring the industry’s leading technical reference guide to the UK and Europe for the first time.
Updated guidance for the UK and European markets
Originally created by EGSA (the Electrical Generating Systems Association) in 1990, On-Site Power Generation: A Comprehensive Guide to On-Site Power has long been regarded as the power generation industry’s essential technical reference book or “bible”.
Now, the newly launched 6th edition expands beyond its traditional US focus to become a truly global resource, developed in partnership between EGSA, AMPS, and EUROPGEN.
“The On-Site Power Generation guide has been the go-to guide for our industry for over 30 years. Making it relevant to the UK and European market is something we have wanted to see for a long time, and we are delighted to have played a part in making that happen,” said Alan Beech, outgoing Director General for AMPS. “This is exactly the kind of initiative that AMPS exists to move forward. The intent is that this is a big step towards going global, beyond just the US and European markets, to include regions across Africa and the Middle East as well,” he added.
Created by experts from across the industry, the guide explains the theory, technologies, components, and practical application of on-site electrical generator systems. It is designed as a straightforward, practical reference covering nearly every aspect of on-site power generation equipment.
The updated edition includes:
- Global coverage including 50Hz and 60Hz systems, CE and UL standards, and local variances such as grid codes and planning regulations
- The latest technologies including hybrid systems and micro-grids
- Emerging fuels including HVO, biomethane, hydrogen, and synthetic fuels
- Guidance suitable for both experienced professionals and those entering the industry
The growing importance of resilient power systems

The guide will also support AMPS’ forthcoming accredited training programme and is intended to become a core learning resource for apprentices, engineers, technicians, manufacturers, distributors, and service providers across the sector.
